Chemical Peels

Chemical peels can be used to treat most areas but more commonly the face, hands, décolletage (chest area), back, arms and legs.

How does a peel work?

As we age damaging agents such as smoking, sunlight & pollution all leave their mark on our skin. Cell turnover and exfoliation slows resulting in layers of dead skin cells causing fine lines and a dull congested appearance.

A chemical peel treatment is a technique used to rapidly remove the upper damaged layers of the skin cells revealing rejuvenated, youthful skin and stimulating cell restructuring.

The treatment generally takes 30 minutes and, depending on the area, a course of peel treatments may be recommended for optimal results. Treatment sessions are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Benefits of chemical skin peels.

  • Improve your complexion and skin elasticity.
  • Stimulate cell production.
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
  • An acne chemical peel can improve acne and the appearance of acne scarring.
  • Improve colour irregularities (hyper pigmentation).

Possible side effects.

There are no general side effects, although people prone to cold sores should be prescribed Zovirax 2 days prior to the peel.

Peels should not be used by:

  • Pregnant or breast feeding women.
  • Individuals already on a peeling programme or using Retinol products.
  • People allergic to aspirin or who have active cold-sores.
  • Individuals using Acutane (Roaccutane) for acne.

It is advisable to stay out of the sun for 6 to 8 weeks post treatment to protect the new rejuvenated skin.

How will I look afterwards?

The skin looks pink initially and then will begin to peel 2 to 3 days post treatment. Recovery usually takes 7 to 10 days depending on the depth of the peel used.

Costs.
1 peel £150
Course of 6 peels £600 (saving £300)
